# LANE FOUR ATHLETICS China OEM Small-Lot Plan

Status: Working plan for first China OEM / ODM tee sourcing
Use: Practical route for making `L4-TEE-01` cheaply without losing quality.

## Read This First

China should be used as the second tee lane, not as a blind first bulk order.

Use Japan-side blanks to prove styling and print scale quickly. In parallel,
use China ODM/OEM to find a closer private-label tee body with the correct
weight, collar, shoulder drop, rubber label, neck label, and packing system.

## Current Market Read

- Low-MOQ heavyweight tee manufacturers are available, but the stated MOQ is
  not enough to judge quality. Some public examples show 30 pieces for 300 GSM
  oversized tees on Made-in-China, while factory pages commonly state 50 pieces
  for stock blanks and 100 pieces for full custom.
- Alibaba Trade Assurance can reduce payment and dispute risk, but it does not
  replace supplier vetting, written specifications, physical samples, and
  pre-shipment inspection.
- Verified Supplier status is useful for screening because Alibaba says it can
  include third-party checks of company profile, production capabilities,
  products, and process controls. Treat it as a starting filter, not proof that
  the next order will pass.
- For bulk, use an AQL-based inspection standard. QIMA describes AQL as the
  maximum acceptable number of defects in a sample batch; critical defects
  should be treated as zero tolerance.
- For Japan sales, final garments need correct textile quality labeling. The
  Consumer Affairs Agency explains that the Household Goods Quality Labeling Act
  sets required quality display matters and methods for covered household goods.

## Recommended Route

### Phase 0: Domestic Control Sample

Make or order the quick Japan-side control first:

- United Athle 4411-01 black tee with white `LANE4`.
- United Athle 4411-01 or 5508-01 greige/natural tee with dark `LANE4`.
- Use these to confirm print size, athlete styling, photo tone, and the back
  rubber-label scale.

This gives the China factory a visible target without asking them to copy
another brand.

### Phase 1: China Supplier Shortlist

Search 8-10 suppliers, message 5-8, and pay for samples from 2.

Screen suppliers by:

- Can show existing 260-300 GSM oversized / boxy tee bodies.
- Can send actual size chart, fabric composition, GSM, shrinkage estimate, and
  body photos.
- Can make a long matte black silicone or soft PVC back-collar label.
- Can handle neck label, care label, hangtag, polybag, and size sticker.
- Can accept 1-3 sample pieces before pilot production.
- Can do 50-100 piece pilot production after sample approval.
- Can quote with EXW/FOB and sample shipping separately.
- Can accept written defect criteria and pre-shipment inspection.

Avoid suppliers who:

- Only send catalog photos and no size chart.
- Say "same as Fear of God" or offer copied labels.
- Cannot explain fabric weight, shrinkage, neck rib, print method, or label
  attachment.
- Refuse sample revisions before bulk.
- Push a large MOQ before proving the body.

### Phase 2: Paid Sample Order

Order from two factories:

Do not request a full custom pattern yet. Approve body and material first.

### Phase 3: Pilot Production

After sample approval, run one pilot:

- Product: `L4-TEE-01`
- Quantity target: 50-100 pcs total
- Split: black 70%, greige/natural 30%
- Sizes: M/L/XL first, then add S only if audience requires
- Prints: one-color only
- Label: long matte black rubber label at back collar
- Packing: folded, clear polybag, size sticker, simple hangtag

Keep this pilot narrow. Do not add hoodie, track set, shorts, and swimwear to
the same China order yet.

## Cost Control

Cheap but acceptable usually comes from:

1. Existing ODM body, not full custom pattern.
2. One fabric family, two colors, one print color per body.
3. One rubber label shared across tee and future fleece.
4. No embroidery on the first tee pilot.
5. Shipping samples first, bulk later.
6. Written QC criteria before deposit.

Do not save money by skipping:

- Physical sample.
- Wash test.
- Measurement tolerance.
- Defect agreement.
- Pre-shipment photos or inspection.
- Correct care/composition labeling.

## Suggested Inspection Standard

For first pilot production, require:

- Pre-production sample approved in writing.
- Factory sends in-line photos at cutting, sewing, print, label, and packing.
- Final inspection before shipment when goods are at least 80% complete.
- AQL target:
  - Critical: 0
  - Major: 2.5
  - Minor: 4.0

Critical defects include wrong logo, copied third-party label/artwork, unsafe
needle/metal contamination, wrong fiber composition label, severe stain, wrong
body color, or missing care label.
